Baptism is the act of publicly declaring you are a Christ-follower. When you go down into the waters of baptism, it is symbolic of being nailed to the cross with Jesus. When you rise out of the waters of baptism, it is symbolic of Jesus’ resurrection, in which He defeated sin, death, and evil. It’s also symbolic of His resurrected life that is now in you. Please keep in mind that baptism is not optional; Jesus commanded it
(Matthew 28:18–20).
